Trust & safety

Total confidence, by design

You're trusting us with something precious — your child's wellbeing, and things you'd only share with someone you trust. Here is exactly how we protect it, in plain English. Nothing buried, no jargon.

Our promise on AI & your data

What you share is never used to train AI. Full stop.

Not ours, not ChatGPT's, not anyone's. Your conversations are never used to build or train AI models, never sold, and never used for advertising. Your data works for you — and no one else.

How the AI actually works

Clinician-designed, evidence-disciplined, and always human-led.

It supports — it never replaces

The Companion gives practical guidance to help you. It does not diagnose, treat or decide anything. It is not a therapist, and it never pretends to be.

It won't make things up

Built on strict evidence discipline: it will not invent statistics, facts or diagnoses. If it doesn't know, it says so and points you to the right professional.

You are always in control

Every answer is advisory. Clinician-designed guardrails shape it, and anything that hints at risk stops and signposts to real help.

Personal, not generic

Guidance is shaped by what your child is learning at school this week and the profile you choose to share — used sensitively, never read back like a file.

Where your data lives

Kept in the UK

Your data is processed and stored within the United Kingdom and does not leave UK jurisdiction.

Encrypted throughout

Protected in transit and at rest, with strict access controls — the same school-grade standards used in children's safeguarding.

Only what's needed

We practise data minimisation — collecting the least we need to help you, and nothing more.

Yours to take or erase

Your content stays yours. Export it, or permanently delete everything, at any time from your Account.

Your child's data — held to the highest bar

The most protected data there is

Information about a child's wellbeing is 'special category' data under UK law — the most protected class — and we treat it that way by default.

Designed for children

Built to the principles of the ICO's Children's Code (the Age-Appropriate Design Code): privacy on by default, always in the child's best interests.

Born in safeguarding

iMatta Junior is built on a platform created for school safeguarding — one of the most demanding data-security environments in the UK public sector.

Never shared with school

What you tell the Companion is private to you. It is never shared with your child's school without your explicit say-so.

What we will never do
Safeguarding, always one tap away

If anything you or the Companion writes suggests a child may be at risk, the Companion stops trying to advise and clearly signposts to people who can help right now — Childline 0800 1111, NSPCC 0808 800 5000, Samaritans 116 123, Shout (text 85258), and 999 in an emergency — as well as your school's Designated Safeguarding Lead and your GP.

Common questions
Is anything I write used to train ChatGPT or other AI?
No. Your conversations are never used to train any AI model — not the ones we use, and not third parties'. They're used only to give you a helpful reply in the moment.
Where is my data stored?
In the United Kingdom. Your data is processed and stored within UK jurisdiction and does not leave it.
Does my child's school see what I write to the Companion?
No. Your conversations are private to you and are never shared with the school without your explicit consent. The school link is one-way — it only tells the Companion which lesson your child is on that week.
Can I delete everything?
Yes. You can export or permanently delete your data at any time from your Account. Deletion is irreversible.
Is this a therapy or medical service?
No. iMatta Junior offers wellbeing guidance to support you — it does not diagnose or treat, and it's not a substitute for professional or medical advice. In an emergency, call 999.
What happens if the Companion senses my child may be at risk?
It stops advising and immediately signposts to the right help — Childline, NSPCC, Samaritans, Shout and 999 — and suggests your school's safeguarding lead and GP. Safety comes before everything else.
